365 Orlando 127. Biking Around the Orlando Area

August 31st, 2010 by tisner

In the Orlando and surrounding areas there are many different paved biking trails, just waiting for you to explore.  There are plans to link up the trail system to link up and circumnavigate the Orlando area.  There are currently 9 different trails that will one day be connected.  One of the trails that you don’t want to miss is the West Orange Trail that starts at the Killarney Station, where you will find a bike rental shop and maps of the trail.  This is a rail trail that takes you through Winter Garden and by its central fountain.  The trail is well maintained with multiple stations and outpost.  This trail is a 44-mile ride round trip, but is well worth the effort even if you shorten the trip.  Another trail you may want to consider is the Seminole-Wekiva trail that’s current length is 14 miles from Altamonte Springs to Wekiva River Protection Area.  This trail travels trough more urban areas with strip malls and at time is close to the I-4 but it still allows for some pretty views of local lakes and wooded areas.  Either one of these trails would make for an enjoyable day ride.

The Cross Seminole Trail is the backbone of the Orlando bike trail network but is currently still under construction so in some areas the trail maybe hard to follow.  They have currently completed about 22 miles of this trail.  The trail begins in Heathrow with a large bridge that spans I-4.  Along the trail you will have the pleasure of riding through residential areas, Big Tree Park, industrial areas, but once the trail is complete this will make for a fun riding experience.

Spend some time exploring the wonderful biking experience around Orlando.
