365 Orlando: 49. The Orlando Philharmonic presents My Fair Lady

Experience My Fair Lady brought to you by the Orlando Philharmonic on May 8th with performances at 2pm and 8pm. This performance joins the Orlando Philharmonic and the talents of Mad Cow Theatre for an exciting semi-staged production. My Fair Lady is the story of Professor Henry Higgins the phoneticist and Eliza Doolittle, the Cockney flower girl, who becomes his experiment to transform her into a “lady”. You will enjoy favorite hits including: I Could Have Danced All Night, Get Me to the Church on Time, Wouldn’t it Be Lovely, and The Rain in Spain.

365 Orlando: 48. Uncover the Magic with Backstage Disney

This tour will take you behind the scenes at the Walt Disney World Resorts in Orlando to show you the innovative special effects. The Backstage Disney tour will take you to Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and Hollywood Studios theme park. In Magic Kingdom you will get to see the hidden world of the legendary underground “Utilidor” tunnel system. You will be able to lunch at the Whispering Canyon Café inside Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. 365 Orlando: 47. Bok Tower Gardens

Get away from the hustle and bustle in Orlando and head over to the Bok Tower Gardens. The gardens were created in the late 1920s by author Edward Bok. You will enjoy exploring the 130 acres of plant life and trees, including azaleas, magnolias, camellias and ferns. If it’s wildlife and wetland plants you want to see check out “Window By The Pond”. It is situated on the edge of the pond where you can observe birds, butterflies, reptiles and other native animals in their natural habitat.

The Gardens are also home to a marble and coquina tower that is home to 57-bell carillon. There are carillon recitals daily at 1pm and 3pm.

 

Take some time and see the Bok Tower Gardens while in Orlando.

365 Orlando: 46. The Orlando Cabaret Festival

cabaret (2)The Mad Cow Theatre in downtown Orlando plays host to the eighth annual Orlando Cabaret Festival, April 30 – May 16, 2010. This festival will feature many central Florida artist along with artists from the New York Cabaret scene performing over 40 acts including jazz, pop, Broadway, and comedy. There will be three world-class headliners this year that define both classic and contemporary cabaret. They are Karen Akers, KT Sullivan and The Broadway Boys. You will be able to enjoy these performances in the intimate setting at The Mad Cow.

You can also take your lunch break to downtown Orlando and catch a show with the weekday lunchtime performances. These performances last 45 minutes and you are encouraged to bring your lunch or order a box lunch from the theater. The theater welcomes groups to have a unique lunch experience in downtown Orlando.

So don’t miss out on this fun festival running April 30 – May 16, 2010 in downtown Orlando at The Mad Cow Theatre.

365 Orlando: 45. Make your Mom a Queen for the day at Medieval Times

Take your mom out for a night to remember this Mother’s Day at Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament in Orlando. They are offering a Free admission for Mom with a paid adult admission on May 7 thru 9th. She will enjoy the pageantry, romance, and excitement of the show full of heroic knights on spirited horses. The knights will perform athletics feats and thrilling swordplay. There is a new musical score and brilliant lights that provide a great backdrop for this amazing dinner show experience.

365 Orlando: 44. Hiking at the Disney Wilderness Preserve

Grab your hiking boots and visit the Disney Wilderness Preserve located just south of Orlando.wildlife preserve 2 
 
The preserve protects the head waters of the Everglades ecosystem. The 12,000 preserve is one of the largest off-site wild life preserve hikingwetlands mitigation projects ever undertaken in the United States. Before you head out on your hike you must first register at the self-serve stand. It is recommended for your safety that you bring drinking water, a hat, sun protection, bug repellant and wear appropriate footwear. The trail provides a up close and personal look at the preserves resident plants and animals. The trail leaves from the Conservations Learning Center and includes a one-mile trip to Lake Russell, one of the last remaining pristine lakes in the Orlando area. If you wish to hike longer the trail continues beyond Lake Russell, covering a 2.5-mile loop.

365 Orlando: 43. Out of this World: Extraordinary Costumes from Film and Television At the History Center

Ever wanted to see the costumes that your favorite actors and actresses wore in those movies we love? They are here in Orlando at the Orange County Regional History Center.

This exhibit features more than 40 costumes, props, and models that span 60 years of film and television. From movies like “Star Wars,” “Bladeexhibit_sevenofnine_ootw Runner,” Indiana Jones,” Ghostbusters II,” “Batman,” and many more. The Out of this World exhibit examines how costume design incorporates color, style, scale, materials, historical traditions and cultural cues to help performers and audiences engage in the way the characters are being portrayed. Some of the exciting costumes you will see include the jacket worn by Harrison Ford as Indian Jones, the leather jacket worn by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the film “The Terminator”, and Darth Vader’s cape, Jedi robe and light saber from the “Star Wars” trilogy and much more.

So check out this exhibit at the Orange County Regional History Center in the heart of Orlando.

Experience natural Florida only a short drive from Orlando, you can see Florida the way the founding settlers did-on horseback. You will be riding on historic trails first used by Native Americans back in the 1500’s. They offer rides that are one, two or three hour adventures through the 4700 acre wildlife area. This area covers nine distinct Florida ecosystems. Your guide from Florida EcoSafari will provide insight and commentary about your encounters along the way. This will be a real safari though unspoiled Florida ecosystems.

Horseback safaris are available daily and can be arranged for riders with varying levels of experience. They will match you personally with your horse based on skill level and the person individual’s personality.

365 Orlando: 40. Orlando Science Center-Dino Digs

Travel back to prehistoric times right in Orlando with the Dino Digs exhibit at the Orlando Science Center. The exhibit allows you to become part of a paleontological excavation site. You will be able to dig for ‘fossils’ in the dig pit and examine fossilized dino eggs. This exhibit also allows you to compare reptiles and dinosaurs so you can see their similarities and differences.
 

 

 This is a great activity for Orlando families, the Science Center encourages learning in a fun way.
