Florida Hurricane Season Ends!
The Sunshine State continues to be the sunshine state!

With just a scattering of days left to hurricane season 2006, the quiet storm year continues to fade peacefully. The Sunshine State continues to be the sunshine state! An average hurricane season produces ten named storms, six of which become hurricanes, two of them intense.

This year, so far, the Atlantic basic has spawned nine named storms, five of which become hurricanes, two intense. Last year, the record-breaker, had twenty-eight named storms, fifteen of them hurricanes, seven of those intense.

This year, Florida was hit by no hurricanes and only two tropical storms – Alberto, on the Gulf Coast and Ernesto, in the south. In 2006, no storms were worries to Central Florida.

During the past 145 years – the time of serious record-keeping of storms – Florida has been hit by only four hurricanes and six tropical storms in November. Two of the hurricanes were category 1 storms, two were category 2.The last named storm, in 1998, was Mitch, a tropical storm, which landed at Bonita Beach, southwest of Orlando.

Dept. of Homeland Security Outlines New Docurment Requirements for Air Travel

November 22nd, 2006 by tisner

Passports Required for Air Travel Into the United States as of Jan.23rd 2007

Passports Required for Air Travel Into the United States as of Jan.23rd 2007

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Department of State announced on November 22 the official requirement for citizens of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda to present a passport to enter the United States when arriving by air from any part of the Western Hemisphere (including the Caribbean and Central and South America) beginning January 23, 2007.

This is a revision from the previously announced date of January 8, 2007.

Here are the current rules regarding the need to have a Passport for travel within the Western Hemisphere:
AIR
January 23, 2007 – Passport required for all air travel within the Western Hemisphere and abroad.

U.S. Citizens departing and returning to the United States by air after January 23, 2007, will be required to have a valid U.S. Passport. The Passport office is already busy and this will likely contribute to a backlog that could result in lengthy issuance delays as these rules take effect.

SEA and LAND
As soon as January 1, 2008 – Passport or other accepted documents* required for land border crossings and sea travel within the Western Hemisphere.

Although the requirement to possess a valid Passport or PASScard for sea travel and land border crossings could be extended to as late as June 1, 2009, the government can accelerate this date based on meeting certain standards and is recommending that travelers be prepared for the passport requirement as early as January 1, 2008.

The Bottom Line:
Don’t delay – encourage all of your clients to get a Passport today!

Remember, without a Passport or PASScard, your clients will not be able to travel outside of the United States and you will be limited in the international leisure vacations that you can market and sell – particularly cruises. In addition, after the implementation date, U.S. clients who arrive at their Port of Embarkation without a valid U.S. Passport will not be permitted to board the ship. Information you can share with every client on obtaining or renewing a U.S. Passport can be found on the State Department’s Web site.

*Sea and land travelers will also be eligible for the PASScard, a less expensive alternative document.

Florida Gardening

Florida Gardening is a Year Round Pleasure

Florida Gardening is a Year Round Pleasure

For those who love to garden, living in Florida provides a delight. Trees maintain their leaves, grass remains green, plants continue to bloom.

It is a sunny paradise! In Orlando, winter mornings may bring temporary frost. Listen to TV or radio the night before. If the weatherperson predicts a frost, cover bushes, plants or shrubs with homemade remedies such as sheets or blankets. It is fun to drive through a neighborhood and see plants covered in this way! True Florida decorations!

For an almanac on what to do when, go to this Orlando Sentinel site and click on "gardening almanac." You will see that in November, for instance, it is advised to plant seeds, clean out birdbaths and prepare bird feeders for the winter influx of birds, and dunk chill-sensitive plants in cold water to chase away bugs before you bring them indoors.

Happy gardening!
