Hurricane Season

Hurricane Season is Ending, Florida Looking Good!

Hurricane Season is Ending, Florida Looking Good!
Florida the Sunshine State

The Sunshine State will continue to have sunshine!

With less than a month left to hurricane season 2006, it seems as if the quiet storm year may fade out with a peaceful ending.

An average hurricane season produces ten named storms, six of which become hurricanes, two of them intense. This year, so far, the Atlantic basic has spawned nine named storms, five of which become hurricanes, two intense.

Last year, the record-breaker, had twenty-eight named storms, fifteen of them hurricanes, seven of those intense. This year, Florida was hit by no hurricanes and only two tropical storms – Alberto, on the Gulf Coast and Ernesto, in the south.

In 2006, no storms were worries to Central Florida. During the past 145 years – the time of serious record-keeping of storms – Florida has been hit by only four hurricanes and six tropical storms in November. Two of the hurricanes were category 1 storms, two were category 2.

The last named storm, in 1998, was Mitch, a tropical storm, which landed at Bonita Beach, southwest of Orlando.

AirTran Wants to Know Where You Want to Go Next
air tran

AirTran, which has a sizable presence at Orlando International Airport, is taking a survey to find out where passengers want to go next. All you have to do is go the the website, click on "tell us where you want to fly," and register your choice. Perhaps you want to visit your long lost great aunt in the midwest or climb a northwest mountain. Let the airline know!

AirTrans is asking for input to establish a new route. Of course this doesn’t mean that OIA will be part of the route. But we can try! AirTran operates from Terminal A at Orlando International

Sail to Anguilla, British West Indies
Anguilla is home to sailing ships and yachts which moor safely in the turquoise waters of its harbors.
Anguilla is not a destination for cruise ships, accounting, in part, for the quiet nature of the island.
If you are sailing to Anguilla, here is a reproduction of the nautical chart.

SeaWorld Set to rescue Manatee

SeaWorld Set to Rescue Manatee Who Swam to Memphis
A 1000-pound manatee that left its warm waters has found the Mississippi River and is vacationing in Memphis.

How or why the manatee – also called a sea cow – found the Mississippi and swam up stream for 720 miles is unknown. Perhaps it went to see Elvis.

seaworld rescue team | Memphis Manatee

The SeaWorld Manatee Rescue team expects to rescue the mammal – called by Memphis locals – "Manny the Memphis Manatee."
The manatee, which has been living in Wolf River Harbor off downtown Memphis, will be brought back to SeaWorld.

SeaWorld maintains one of several rescue centers for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife manatee rescue, rehabilitation and release program.

The manatees in Orlando SeaWorld’s "Manatees: The Lost Generation?" habitat have all been rescued through a SeaWorld rescue team.
