Come by the Central Florida Community Arts School of Performing Arts for a Half-Day Acting Intensive. Carol Saragusa and some of her friends will be creating a mini play from start to finish. They will help you learn how to read lines with inflection and emotion, and how to get into the character. This will be a great workshop to help get started on your way to acting.
Carol Saragusa has been with Disney’s America Idol and has a background in acting and performance training. This workshop will be lots of fun and informative for Teens and adults age 16 and up. You will need to bring a notebook and a pencil. Bring lunch to enjoy at the break the class will run from 9:30-4:00pm on August 31st. This will be a fun way to step into acting in Orlando. Central Florida Community Arts in Orlando is presenting The music of Rodgers & Hammerstein: The Golden Age of Musical Theater. Join them on August 9th and 10th at 7:30pm and on August 11 at 6:30 pm for a night of music. Members of the Central Florida Community Arts will be singing songs from popular Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals such as South Pacific, The King and I, The Sound of Music and Carousel.
Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II were the composing team that brought musical theater to life and created some of the greatest performances of the 20th century! These two began what is now known as the Golden Age of Musical Theater! This show will highlight some of the wonderful songs they composed. Orlando and the surrounding Florida area is rich in history and some of it’s a little strange! Join the Orange County Regional History Center as they welcome author Jeff Klinkenberg for a discussion of his book “Alligators in B-Flat: Improbable Tales From the Files of The Real Florida”. Jeff’s book takes you through the sunshine state on a different type of historical journey. He explores the contradictions that make up the unique history of Florida through fishing camps, country stores, museums, and libraries. One little oddity that he notes is that male alligators will answer a B-flat chord with a thunderous bellow!
Jeff is a Florida native who has been working for newspapers since the age of 16. You will enjoy seeing this different side of Florida through this book. Come out to the Orange County Regional History Center on August 17th from 1pm to 2:30pm in Orlando.

Then you will have a blast while helping out the community of Orlando with the Super Joy Riders: Do-Gooder Bike Ride on Sunday July 28th 10am – 2pm. Join the mix of cyclists, do-gooders, and super hero nerds as they bike around the city of Orlando to complete a scavenger hunt of charitable work!
All you need to participate is a bike but you get bonus do-gooder points if you have a helmet. This is a great community event that brings together people from all backgrounds to help the fine folks of Orlando.

Women’s Fastpitch softball is playing in Orlando this summer! The USSSA Pride will be playing the Chicago Bandits this weekend starting tonight with a game at 7:05pm at Osceola County Stadium at Osceola Heritage Park. Then on Saturday at 5:35 and 8:35pm! The Chicago Bandits have been a long time rival of the USSSA Pride! Come dressed your fastpitch uniform for free admission to the games this weekend. The USSA Pride team includes Olympic Gold Medalist Cat Osterman, and other stars of fastpitch softball!
Fastpitch softball is an exciting game where the pitcher throws the ball underhand at speeds of more than 75 miles per hour! This is the most competitive form of softball and is played in the Olympics! Fastpitch became popular in the US in the 30s and 40s with both men and women playing and because they are such fast pace games they quickly became popular with the crowds. Simple Self Defense for Women is coming to Orlando on July 13th to teach women how to simply escape an attack! Mayor Buddy Dyer has issued an official proclamation declaring July 13th at Simple Self Defense for Women Day in Orlando. This is a free workshop offered by Simple Self Defense for Women and children ages 9 to 91 in the City of Orlando.
They will teach you how to get away from your attacker not to stay and fight! This event it so popular they have added at 6 pm workshop so register today! The event will be held at the Sheraton Orlando Downtown on Saturday July 13th 6pm – 8pm. They will be collecting school supplies for “A Gift For Teaching” that will benefit grades K-12. Come out and learn about the ghostly specters that haunt Downtown Orlando with American Ghost Adventures. Their guides will take you on a stroll through Orlando while telling you the haunting history of buildings such as the Ceviche Restaurant which was formally the Historic Strand Hotel. They will take you by other historic buildings in Downtown Orlando and tell you stories about ghost sightings around town.
On your tour you will be taken through a real haunted building in Orlando where you will be given EMF detectors and make sure you don’t forget your camera just in case you spot a spectral. Sometimes you catch things on camera that you may not have seen with the naked eye.

It’s almost time to celebrate July 4th in Orlando. There are many local places to take in the fireworks around town. In downtown Orlando enjoy the festivities at Lake Eola Park from 4pm-10pm. Fireworks at the Fountain will include live music, food vendors and family fun; the fireworks will begin at 9:15pm.

Enjoy a little rock n’ roll at Disney’s Hollywood Studies where they will use the music with their fireworks display. Check out the show at Legoland Florida, where you will get a 3D fireworks experience, Red, Brick & Boom. With the glasses you will see the fireworks as millions of exploding bricks!
