Let’s have fun with cooking at this six- week hands-on cooking course which teaches adults and parents how to prepare and shop sensibly for healthy meals on a limited budget. Please commit to the full six- week program. Lessons 1 through 4 include an instructor-led participatory food preparation session with sufficient groceries for participants to make and eat a serving of two to three recipes during class. During Lessons 1 through 4, participants will be provided with a take-home bag of groceries with the primary ingredients to make at least one recipe at home. Lesson 5 will include a trip to the grocery store or a simulated in-class store experience in which participants are given the opportunity to practice their shopping skills to purchase a healthy basket of food. Lesson 6 is a celebration! This event will be presented by Rachel Stankiewitch with the Family Nutrition Program at the UF/IFAS Extension office. Purchasing a home is a huge deal and can cost quite a bit of money.   There are a few things in this world that can make people crazy and one of those is money.  If you are thinking about purchasing a home with your best friend you may want to consider a few things first to make sure you are making the best decision for both of you.    There are pros and cons to buying a home together and they are listed below for your consideration.

1. One benefit of buying a home with your best friend is that there will be two of you signing on the loan.  This makes many lenders very happy because they know that they have double the chance that the mortgage payment will be paid each month.  Having two people instead of one signing the mortgage is better all the way around.
2. Another benefit of buying a home with your best friend  is that you will share the expenses.  You can sit down together to figure out who is going to pay for what and then take the savings you will receive by doing this and put it toward something you both want or something you want  for yourself.  The beauty of this is that by sharing expenses you will likely have the money to share for fun things too.
3. Buying a home with your best friend is a great way to gain equity. The longer you two live together the more equity you will be building in the home that you purchase.  If you decide to sell the home one day in the future, you will be able to split the profits and start your new lives more easily than if you didn’t purchase a home together.
4. One con to buying a home with your best friend  might be the sheer rawness of moving in with someone hitting you in the face.  You may be best friends but when you move in together there will likely be things you find that you don’t enjoy about the others company.  A good way to keep this from causing any issue is to spend some time apart on a daily basis.
5. Another downfall to buying a home with your “bestie” might be your debt to income ratio. If you both have your income tied up in the mortgage there might not be enough to quality for a new car loan if the need arises.

One of Ireland’s most historic homes is for sale. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and ‘drown the shamrock’ at the Guinness Beer castle that has reigned over the rolling emerald hills of Ireland near Dublin since the 18th century. In recent history, the castle housed Guinness-beer heiress Oonagh, Lady Oranmore and Browne, one of the three “golden Guinness girls,” who entertained lavishly and whose guests have included the Rolling Stones, Anjelica Huston (who grew up next-door), Lucian Freud, and U2’s Bono.

Dublin’s most famous export, Guinness beer, first arrived in the United States on the shore of North Carolina in 1817 under the direction of Arthur Guinness II, first heir to the company. The dark ale, known as stout, became an instant hit as it spread its delicious exports around the world. Today, offering eleven distinct varieties, thousands of bottles will be consumed on St. Patrick’s Day, a one-day break from Lent, after sixteen days of building up a powerful thirst. Though to many Americans, St. Patrick’s Day has evolved into green beer and a drinking free-for-all, if you’re heading to Dublin to celebrate and take a tour of the Guinness castle, be forewarned that you’ll probably be doing it with other tourists in the Guinness’ Temple Bar neighborhood because when the parade is over most of the locals head home to a nice dinner and an evening of calm entertainment.

Let’s face it, we are all busy and we all typically look forward to relaxing after a hard day’s work once we arrive home!  Can I get an Amen?   Many times however, we come home to a house that can sometimes be less than relaxing.  Whether it is the kids running around fighting with one another or the animals leaving us messes to clean up, there are many reasons why our homes can often times be less than relaxing.  Below are listed a few tips to help make your home a more relaxing place regardless of what is going on around you.

1. Placing a big comfortable chair in a quiet nook in your home with perhaps a blanket thrown over it can do a lot towards adding a relaxing comfy feel.  Be sure to put this chair and blanket in an “out of the way” space such as a back bedroom so that you will be able to go there to escape the day.
2. Another idea for making your home a more relaxing place  is to add some fluffy white curtains to your patio or porch.  Add a few pieces of outdoor furniture and a table or two as well.  This will allow you an outdoor space in which you can retire to after a long hard day at work.  These spaces are great for when the weather is good.
3. Adding an upholstered headboard to your bed can make the entire room look more soft and serene. Also if you happen to have a television in your bedroom, take it out and put it somewhere else in the house.  Your bedroom should be your sanctuary at all times.
4. Another way to help make your home a more relaxing place is to add a speaker system throughout your house. This way you can play soft relaxing music and listen to it as you move from room to room.
5. Much in the way that music can be used to make your home a more relaxing place, diffusing essential oils into your home can go a long way as well! If you don’t have a diffuser you should definably order one today!

These tips to make your home a more relaxing place are a good place to start!  Once you do your part to make your home your sanctuary you will likely love the changes!
